The work is in creating the conditions — material and otherwise — for whatever wants to be expressed to come out. Then staying present through the whole act of making it.

Layered acrylic, scraping, erasure, gesture. Marks are made, buried, and partly recovered. What's left on the surface is a record of the time spent in front of it rather than a picture of anything.

Emotional landscapes, not literal ones.

Sarah Levine is an abstract painter based in Los Angeles. She works in layered acrylic on canvas and on paper, building atmospheric surfaces through accumulation, scraping, and erasure. Her work was shown at the Beverly Hills Art Show in spring 2026, and is included in “Creative Works” at office42 architecture this October. In September 2026 she donated a painting to the benefit auction at CTAOP’s 6th Annual Block Party.

CTAOP Block Party

Tied (acrylic on canvas, 48 × 48 in) was donated to the benefit auction at the 6th Annual Block Party for CTAOP — the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project. CTAOP funds community-based organizations across Southern Africa delivering health services, education, sexual health and HIV prevention programs; since 2007 those programs have reached more than 4.8 million young people. The evening raised over $1 million.

Creative Works

A curated group exhibition of local artists across diverse mediums — art, objects and figures — presented as part of Los Angeles Design Week/end. Sarah is showing eight works, on canvas and on paper, across a single wall.
